For many years, Australian-made Forty Fathoms™ has been helping people who are exposed to environmental elements, keep their skin protected. We bring the wisdom of nature into all we do. The power and soul of the ocean flow through the Forty Fathom™ brand, so incorporating a potent seaweed extract into the core of our skincare range was the perfect fit.

Seas of Tasmania

The key ingredients of Forty Fathoms™ are sourced from wild, hand-harvested Fucus Vesiculosus seaweed that grows in the world’s purest and cleanest ocean waters. Tasmania is one of the world’s last, accessible wilderness frontiers. Australia’s only island state, there is nothing south until you reach Antarctica and nothing east until New Zealand. It has the cleanest air in the inhabited world, and is the perfect location to develop pure, nature ingredients.

Sustainable harvesting of wild seaweed

The brown seaweed used is wild grown, organically occurring and not farmed in any way. It is harvested only once a year in early spring, a sustainable fashion and picked in line with its seasonal growth cycles.

Sustainability benefits of seaweed

  • Seaweed offers high value in terms of the low resources used to grow it.
  • It can act as a carbon sink, absorbing CO2 as it grows. “If you cover 9% of the world’s oceans in seaweed farms. you could draw down the equivalent of all our current carbon emissions” – Tim Flannery.
  • Seaweed can reduce ocean acidification.
  • It can help protect the seabed, providing nursery grounds for juvenile fish.

Discovering Maritech® Bright

After years of research and trials, Dr Helen Fitton and her team of researchers from Marinova identified the powerful properties of Maritech® Bright and its beneficial and repairing nature.

Marinova is a progressive biotechnology company focussed on the resarch, development, and manufacture of high purity fucoidan compounds.

Maintaining the Highest Quality

Not all fucoidans are the same. There are two key factors that determine the efficacy of fucoidans, the method of extraction, and the species of seaweed used.

Traditional methods of extraction compromise the integrity and functionality of the fucoidan. The Maritech® Bright process yields nature identical extracts with enhanced bioactivity.

Vegan-friendly, low temperature and low-pressure extraction

Treated with care, the brown seaweed is processed on-site immediately to preserve the active substance. It is a vegan-friendly extract as no organic solvents are used of any kind in the process.

The seaweed undergoes a water-based process, slowly extracted in low temperature and low pressure, therefore, it is free from undesirable residues in the final product while retaining the bioactive properties of natural brown algae.
